HomeTech.fm ("we", "us", "the show") respects your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit this website or listen to our podcast, how it is used, and the choices you have. We never sell your personal information, and you can turn analytics off at any time.

Site analytics (PostHog)

We use PostHog, a product analytics service, to understand which pages and episodes people read and listen to and where the site is confusing or broken. We use PostHog’s US region. Your browser talks to PostHog through our own domain (www.hometech.fm/hub), so these requests look like ordinary requests to this site.

When analytics is on, PostHog can record:

  • Page views, referrers, and approximate location, based on your IP address.
  • Clicks on elements of the page, along with the visible text of what you clicked (this is called autocapture).
  • Session replay: a recording of how the page looked and what you did on it, such as scrolling and clicking. Everything you type into a form field is masked, and the feedback form is excluded from replay entirely.
  • Heatmaps that show where visitors click and how far they scroll.
  • The words you type into the site search. The search page puts your search term in its address, so the term also appears in the page addresses sent with analytics events and session replays.
  • JavaScript errors, so we can find and fix bugs.

Cloudflare also processes standard server-side request data, such as IP addresses and user-agent strings, to deliver and protect the site. We do not use Google Analytics, advertising, ad personalization, or cross-site tracking. We use the data only to improve the show and the site, and we never sell it.

Your analytics choice

Analytics is on by default. A small notice on your first visit tells you about it. Here is how it works:

  • When analytics is on, PostHog sets one first-party cookie and matching browser local storage on your device when you first visit. Both are named ph_ followed by our project token and then _posthog, and they last up to 365 days. They let us recognize a returning visitor. With analytics on, we also use session replay, autocapture, and heatmaps.
  • To turn analytics off, press the “Turn off analytics” button at the bottom of this page. If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, we treat that as turning analytics off.
  • When analytics is off, we set no analytics cookie, and the analytics data in local storage is cleared. See Cookies and local storage below for what remains. Your visit is still counted anonymously, so we know how many people came. That count has no cookie and no identity that carries across days, and there is no session replay.

You can change your mind at any time. Press “Turn analytics back on” at the bottom of this page to turn analytics on again. You can also clear this site’s cookies in your browser.

Podcast audio (Libsyn)

Our episodes are hosted and delivered by Libsyn. When you play or download an episode (here, in a podcast app, or anywhere our RSS feed is distributed), Libsyn records standard, IP-based download analytics consistent with the IAB Podcast Measurement guidelines (for example your IP address, user agent, and the episode requested). This measurement happens at the audio-hosting layer regardless of this site, is used to produce aggregate listenership numbers, and is governed by Libsyn’s own privacy policy.

Contact and project submission forms

If you use our feedback or project-submission forms, we collect the information you choose to provide. This may include:

  • Your name
  • Your email address
  • Your message, question, or project details

Submissions are stored in Cloudflare’s storage services (Workers KV and/or D1) and a notification is emailed to us through Resend, our transactional email provider, so we can read and reply. We use this information only to respond to you and to operate the show; we do not sell it or use it for advertising.

Spam protection (Cloudflare Turnstile)

Our forms are protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, a privacy-focused CAPTCHA alternative that helps us block automated spam without tracking you across the web. Turnstile may collect limited technical signals (such as your IP address and browser characteristics) to distinguish humans from bots, processed under Cloudflare’s privacy policy.

Images and content delivery (Cloudflare R2 / CDN)

Images and static assets on this site are served from Cloudflare R2 through Cloudflare’s global CDN. As with any web request, Cloudflare may process standard server log data (such as IP address and user agent) to deliver content and protect the site. This site is static, so it does not run a database or user accounts in the page itself.

Cookies and local storage

The only cookie we set is the PostHog analytics cookie described above, and it is set when you first visit, unless you have turned analytics off or set Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control. PostHog also keeps matching data in your browser’s local storage under the same name. If you turn analytics off, local storage holds only a note of that choice and whether you dismissed the cookie notice. We set no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. Apart from that, the site stores only what it needs to work. For example, the audio player remembers your playback position, volume, and playback rate in your browser so listening picks up where you left off.

You remain in control of this storage:

  • Use the “Turn off analytics” button on this page to stop analytics on this device.
  • Clear this site’s data in your browser to remove the analytics cookie, the saved analytics choice, and reset saved player preferences.
  • Use your browser’s privacy controls (or private/incognito mode) to prevent storage from persisting.

Third-party services

Some processing is handled by the third parties named above: PostHog (site analytics), Cloudflare (hosting, Turnstile, R2/CDN), Libsyn (audio), and Resend (email). Each operates under its own privacy policy. We choose providers with privacy practices we are comfortable with, but we do not control their independent processing.

Children’s privacy

This site and podcast are intended for a general adult audience and are not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site or our providers change. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
